Desktop Computers

We offer several brands of Microsoft Windows-based desktop PCs. At Madison Computer Works, we sell desktop computers from Acer, Frontier, Hewlett Packard/Compaq, and IBM. We feature fully open-architecture computers by Frontier systems. Fully open-architecture computers utilize industry-standard parts from the case, to the motherboard, and everything in between. This enables you to use standard "off-the-shelf" parts, making upgrades and service a snap.

Compare that with proprietary systems, often purchased through mail-order and mass-merchandisers. Those proprietary computers require proprietary parts, made specifically for that machine. Standard "off-the shelf" parts typically won't fit into a proprietary computer, which limits your ability to upgrade or repair your system in the future, making it a much costlier machine to own, long term.

Frontier open-architecture computers are built around the following CPU's:
AMD Athlon 64-bit processors: single or dual-processor motherboards
Intel Pentium 4, and Xeon processors: single or dual-processor motherboards
With the release of Microsoft's release of Windows XP 64-bit version of their operating system, most customers buying a new computer prefer to purchase a 64-bit computer that will run the new 64-bit operating system down the road. Since Intels P4 chip is only a 32-bit processor, and Intel's new 64-bit processor won't run existing 32-bit operating systems and applications, the AMD Athlon 64-bit has emerged as the most popular processor in the new computers that we sell. The Athlon 64 runs both 32-bit and 64-bit applications, and since it has been out for several years now, the chip is stable and cost competitive with the Intel P4. The Athlon 64 is a next generation chip at an affordable price. It is not only inexpensive, but it also uses quality, standard, name brand parts, and won't be obsolete before it even leaves the store.

Frontier computers can be custom-configured to meet your individual needs. Choose the processor speed, hard drive capacity, memory, modem, video, sound, CD, CDRW, DVD, and other peripherals you require. Each system includes a 3 year parts/1 year labor warranty. These systems are affordable, reliable, easily upgraded, and designed to meet your specific needs. When you couple this with our renowned local service and friendly support staff, you truly have the best computer deal in Madison! Our sales representatives will be happy to quote on the custom-configured system of your choice.
